Art Diary: Week Ending 29th September

24/09/2012

Today was a creative oasis in a sea of decorating. Yesterday I was painting and the next two days I will hanging wallpaper. Unfortunately I had a bit of a late start as I had to go to town to get animal food. However I did the preliminary drawing stage of seven works; three small landscapes, three slightly larger pseudo-landscapes and a light hearted sequential work:

DAFT DOG DEVELOPMENT is a frivolous pendant to RUINED CASTLE ROTATIONS and has a similar format: I drew in the initial structures today.

The larger landscapes are CAPTIVE LANDSCAPE: based on a photo of my feet resting on a picture on my easel; TWO VERSIONS OF THE ARTIST IN A TREE: based on a photo of a dove in a Scots Pine and a picture based on a photograph taken from a speeding train with the very provisional title of THE CUTTING – TWO PEOPLE ON A TRAIN.

The small landscapes currently have the titles of WIRES IN A LANDSCAPE: from a slide taken out of my bedroom window when I was a small child (it later became my first studio!); CHILDHOOD MEMORY: another picture loosely based on the scene from the same window a few years later and another picture based on a photo from a train with the working title of THE REAL IDENTITY OF A BUSH.

Wallpapering yesterday and the day before (all day on both!). Painting today but thankfully a picture on an easel. I painted over the pencil lines on DAFT DOG DEVELOPMENT and then started painting the work. I will probably try and finish this stage tomorrow – and catch up on my writing – as I have two days of painting doors and things of this ilk over the weekend!

I didn’t have too much time to work today. I finished off the main painting stage of DAFT DOG DEVELOPMENT, touching up the work in the evening, and then spent the rest of the working day writing.
