Art Diary: Week Ending 24th August

18/08/2013

Because of all the gallivanting yesterday I was late with paperwork and blogging etc. Consequently today was divided, fairly unequally between work on the computer, paperwork and (a miniscule amount) of work in the garden.

19/08/2013

I worked on and off during the day on CHARACTERISATION STRANDS, adding symbols to the four sets of strands – although progress was unusually slow.

I carried on with the task of adding symbols to CHARACTERISATION STRANDS. Progress was still slower than usual – I don’t know why.

21/08/2013

I am still working on CHARACTERISATION STRANDS. I got on a bit better to day – this is a very short entry for quite a productive day!

I finished adding all the images to FOUR PEOPLE – CHARACTERISATION STRANDS (title change) and then started painting in some of the strands. I am very much hoping to finish this tomorrow.

I also repainted some of the pencil lines on APOTHEOSIS OF A GRASSY BANK as I had a few minutes to kill at the end of the afternoon.

I filled in some of the images on FOUR PEOPLE – CHARACTERISATION STRANDS and then did the final bit of detailing, finishing the work.

I also painted the rest of the pencil lines on APOTHEOSIS OF A GRASSY BANK. I am not sure if I will continue with this work next week or go back to the three small oils I started a few weeks ago.

I was out in the morning and decided on my return to work on the computers rather than in the garden or studio (the two main alternatives). I finished a bit of writing and then did some unbelievably fiddling digital drawing, not really getting a huge amount finished.

A new element in your work that I’ve never seen before – but I definitely like – the play of light.

    • Thank you. Yes the drawing is definitely rougher than much of my previous work. For no particular reason to be honest although a lot the drawing in the work produced under my pseudonym’s tends to deliberately crude or spontaneous.

I didn’t see the roughness, but the light like a spotlight in the upper right quadrant was different and interesting.

      • That is the latent “anti-artist” in me. On the spur of the moment I decided to stop painting the top (just for the hell of it!) but as this is a Gerald Shepherd work instead of a Manfred Wing one I then went over the unpainted section with a film of acrylic medium with fine sand embedded in it – that way I didn’t feel quite so lazy!
